GENERAL INFORMATION
We are excited to offer classes for kids, teens and adults. Our approach is open- ended, focused on the process rather than a given end product. Our classes are meant to inspire and engage students, exposing them to new materials and fine art concepts, while teaching new skills, and encouraging students to express their own unique point of view. We think art coming from that place is always beautiful:).
Childrens' classes run from 3:30-5:00pm for students in grades 1-8, weekdays after school. Our student teacher ratio is 6:1, so kids get plenty of attention! We offer 4-week packages where students can spend longer developing and building on skills from previous classes. Or, students can register for one class at a time, on a week by week basis. Enrollment is ongoing. We follow the public school re: Covid 19 & Mask policies.
Our adult classes are delivered in the same spirit as the kids. We do not create set curriculums and the class sizes are small, so we can meet people where they are at, allowing them to build skills and confidence in a supportive, casual environment.
Financial scholarships to all our programs are available to those who qualify.

Most student work will go home with students the day of class. However sometimes this is not possible; work may not be dry or be part of a multi-class project or be included in an upcoming show. In these cases we will make arrangement with parents to pick up work at a later date.
CERAMICS STUDENTS: Please note that space is limited in our studio. Due the limited space in the studio, we can only keep work in the studio for one month past the last class of a session. For drop-in students we cannot guarantee work will be stored and students should take work with them.
-
All students must complete the necessary registration forms in order to attend classes. These forms are required by both the city and the State. Forms pop up when registering online and must be filled out once per child.
-
Art Haven should be notified by phone or email if a child is ill, especially if the illness is communicable. Internally, we keep track of the instances of communicable diseases, and when appropriate will notify the parents of all children that may have been exposed, while respecting the confidentiality of campers and families involved.
-
Students who have communicable diseases will be sent home and may not return to camp until the illness has been treated successfully and the camper is symptom free.
-
Students who have signs of head lice (itching, head irritation, etc.) will be removed from their class and can stay in our office until a parent or guardian can pick him/her up. If we believe there is a possibility of head lice, we will ask the family to pick their child up from class. In order to return to class, a student must have had all active lice removed from his or her hair & and no longer show any signs of infestation, itching or irritation.

Art Haven staff uses the positive techniques of guidance, including logical or natural consequences applied in problem situations, redirection of children to more acceptable behavior, anticipation of and elimination of potential problems and encouragement of appropriate behavior rather than comparison, competition or criticism. Consistent and clear rules are established. Staff members encourage children to solve problems rather than imposing solutions and help children to recognize and respect one another’s feelings. Counselors encourage pro-social behavior such as cooperation, helping, taking turns and constructive verbal communication to solve problems. The goal is to help children internalize rules and become self-directed in their behavior. Art Haven reserves the right to dismiss a child for consistent behavior that makes it difficult or impossible for the staff to meet his/her needs and/or the needs of other children in the group. This will occur without a refund (or portion thereof) or credit towards a future program. This will occur only after parent/staff discussion has occurred.
-
All children attending Art Haven Programs are expected to be fully potty-trained by their first day of class. We ask that families provide an extra set of clothes with pre-school students, if a child has a history of bathroom accidents. If an accident occurs during class hours, the Staff will notify the students’s primary parent/guardian.

Art Haven strives to provide a program free from video games, cell phones, audio players, toys and other distractions. Please do not permit your child to bring any of these items to class as they will be busy throughout the day and these items also tend to get lost or misplaced when brought to class. If it is necessary to bring a cell phone for communication with parents/guardians, we ask that it remain in a backpack during class-time.
